Northern Patagonia Trek - Hiking trip in northern Patagonia

Discover the amazing sceneries and landscape of Northern Patagonia hiking through wild natural surroundings with mountains all around and crystal clear lakes and rivers with endless views Explore the volcanoes region with ancient forest trees. Bariloche – San Martín de los Andes and Villa La Angostura.

Day by day itinerary

Day 1 Arrive to San Carlos de Bariloche, transfer to hotel
Day 2 Visit surroundings of bariloche city and easy hike to spectacular view points of Nahuel huapi Lake and Mountain rages Day 3 Moderate hike in Mount Catedral reaching Frey mountain hut
Day 4 Drive to Manso river Valley for a class 3,4 white water rafting, camp in Mascardi lake
Day 5 Drive to Pampa Linda (25 miles), trek Mount Tronador and overnight in nice Mountain hut (5 hs.)
Day 6 Descent to the base, relax in a cozy hotel located at the shore of the lake
Day 7 Drive to San Martin de los Andes, scenic landscapes trough Paso Cordoba
Day 8 - Day 9 moderate trek and discover Lanin Volcano
Day 10 Drive seven lakes road
Day 11 Hike Peninsula Quetrihué (8 miles) and explore Arrayanes forest, navigate Nahuel Huapi to Bariloche
Day 12 Free morning in Bariloche to relax, shop and sightsee. Fly BRC-BUE in time for your international connection

Detailed itinerary:

Day 1:
Arrive to San Carlos de Bariloche airport, transfer to hotel – Welcoming dinner

Day 2:
Breakfast at the Hotel tour to the surrounding area of San Carlos de Bariloche city by Nahuel Huapi lake shore to the west combining with nice hikes to unique view points seldom visited. We pass along Moreno lake, Llao Llao hotel and Colonia Suiza (Swiss colony settlement).
Lunch, leisure afternoon
4 km / 2 hours. easy hike

Day 3:
In the morning we drive to Catedral ski resort. There we take a chairlift to the top ridge where we start hiking on a rocky trail at the ridge with great views of the Rucado valley, mount Tronador and circling mountains. We stop for lunch at the ridge, then we continue descending to Schmoll and Toncek lagoons to Frey mountain hut, then the trail continues to a nothofaghus (lengas) forest to the ski resort base station, our starting point.

18 km. / 7 hours. Moderate hiking


Day 4:
Breakfast and transfer service (with van) to Manso river valley, where there is waiting for us an awesome class III and IV rafting ride to the Chilean - Argentine boarder. This river flows to the Pacific ocean through cordillera mountain ridges almost virgin areas surrounded by abundant leafy forest. When finishing our rafting a Patagonian barbecue ('asado') await us for energy recovering meal. from there we drive by van to Pampa Linda where we stay overnight at the foot of Mount Tronador.
2 hours rafting class III and IV

Day 5:
Early in the morning we set up to start our trekking hike to Meiling mountain hut located at 2000 masl near Alerce and castaño Overo glaciers. After 5 hours hike to the mountain hut we have lunch. During the afternoon we relax and enjoy the landscape. Dinner at the mountain hut.
5 hours moderate hiking

Day 6:
After a homemade breakfast we descent to Pampa Linda. lunch and visit to Ventisqueros Negro and waterfall Garganta del diablo. Transfer back to the city, overnight stay at a Hostería.
4-5 hours hiking


Day 7:
transfer to San Martín de los Andes, by Nahuel Huapi coastline and the along Limay river to Confluencia, from there on gravel road to Meliquina lake through “Paso del Córdoba” continuing to San Martín de los Andes on paved road. This is a beautiful landscape circuit with steppe ancient rock formations eroded by the wind. Stay overnight at a cozy hostería.

Day 8:
Transfer service 60 km toward Curruhue Chico and Grande lakes which lead us to beautiful scenic regions with ancient volcanoes like Achen Niyeu the escorial (lava mix with soil), It is a magma flood cooled when it reached the Epulafquen lake. Hike on several trails. Dinner and overnight stay at camp site.
12 Km / 5 hours hiking


Day 9:
A beautiful hike to the valley of Portezuelo waterfall, with a moonlike landscape enjoy a nice waterfall view. To the South end of the valley we can see the north face of the Lanin volcano. Return to San Martín de los Andes, overnight stay at a hostería
12 Km / 6 hours hiking


Day 10:
we drive through the seven lakes road (Siete lagos) from San Martín de los Andes to Villa La Angostura. beautiful valleys and a winded road which goes along seven lakes. By a stream shore we enjoy a outdoor lunch combining it with short hikes in the area.
2 hours hiking


Day 11:
During the morning we go hiking to Quetrihué peninsula , 12 Km trail hike. The peninsula it is attached to firm land just by a short 200 meters stretch, at its end it is the Arrayan forest, trees with cinnamon color smooth bark, very unusual tree type. After visiting the forest we take a boat on Nahuel Huapi lake to Pto Pañuelo from there to San Carlos de Bariloche. Farewell dinner.
12 km / 3 hours hiking


Day 12:
Breakfast. Free morning in Bariloche to relax, shop and sightsee. Transfer service to airport - end of our services
