Mountaineering ascents in Patagonia

At the NW of Lanin National Park in Patagonia Argentina, between the Huachulaufquen and Tromen lakes rises a cone alike mountain with eternal snow and 3776 m above sea level: the Lanín volcano, which in araucan language means "dead rock". It is the national park 'trademark' and reaching its summit it is the longed wish of many mountaineers. The mountaineering ascent through its northwest face or Normal route takes about 3 to 4 days depending on weather conditions. The sea level difference, the trekking terrain, the climbing equipment and the the daily mountaineering time makes this mountaineering expedition a DEMANDING ascent and difficult.
It is required to be physical and psychologically in good shape.

            3rd to 6th of November 2008 / 1st to 4th December 2008
            5th to 8th January 2009 / 2th to 5th February 2009
            9th to 12th of March 2009 / 6th to 9th of April 2009
Duration: 3 - 4 days

Itinerary:
Day 1:
Shuttle private service to Paso Tromen with magnificent views of the Lanin Volcano. Mountaineering equipment check and mountain hut designation by the park rangers (no WC or bathroom services). Camping at camp site.


Day 2:
Early in the morning we start ascending, the first part of the trail goes through Lenga forest, crossing volcanic terrain and then reaching a rocky ridge called "Espina de pescado" (fish bone) which later on divides into rocky trails until we reach the mountain hut. In the afternoon we take a short hike in the mountain hut nearby area to try and practice with the mountaineering technical equipment which we will use the following day for the mountain ascent.


Day 3:
Early in the morning (3-4 a.m.) we take an abundant breakfast and then set off for the summit ascent. This day it is the most physical demanding of our mountaineering expedition. We climb over different types of snow and rocky terrain. We will take just a small backpack with water, some food and clothing. We have lunch at the summit and then we descent to the mountain hut. We stay for the night at the mountain hut or at camp site according to availability.


Day 4:
In the morning we descent to Tromen pass and we take
private shuttle service back to San Martín de Los Andes.


Note:
If on day 3 the weather conditions are not good enough for the ascent, we wait at the mountain hut until day 4. If we ascent on day 4, when we return we just pass along the mountain hut and descent directly to Tromen pass then shuttle service to San Martín de los Andes, Argentina.


Included: Mountain guide (ratio 1:6 max), private shuttle services, all the meals during the program (breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner) energy supplements and snacks, hot beverages, non alcoholic beverages. Group equipment (tents, cooking ware) mountain hut or other lodging according to the program, technical equipment, if needed (crampons, ski poles, piolets, etc), first aid kit, communications equipment and mobile phone, insurance (not medical insurance) welcome and farewell dinner

Not Included: airplane tickets or other transfer services not included in the program, alcoholic beverages, personal gear, everything not mentioned as INCLUDED
