Day 2:

The next day, we transfer by our vehicle to Puesto Covunco, a village at the Domuyo base.We will start our approach trekking across the Valley of the Covunco stream. We trek on stony terrain, cross the river stepping on large rocks and then continue along the left bank.

Slowly, we start ascending where the valley makes a left turn. Within a quite desert-like landscape we start to notice the mountain ahead of us. From time to time, we encounter smaller streams which are good for resting and hydrating.

At the end of the valley, we encounter a string of ponds. By the last pond - with deep turquoise waters - we set up base camp at 3100 meters height.

After a good breakfast, we put on our backpacks and start our ascent trekking on a stony - and in some areas extremely loose - terrain until we get to Camp 2 at 3800 meters height. You will start feeling the effects of altitude and the wind may probably start blowing hard. It is important to be well-hydrated for a better acclimatization. We have an early dinner so we may rest well before our summit attempt the following day.

Day 4:

Domuyo volcano climbing summit PatagoniaToday, we attempt to reach the summit of Domuyo volcano. Depending on the weather conditions, we will cross snowfields/ ice and/or ice peaks as we keep a slow pace. Halfway up, we encounter quite steep slopes.

Here, we are embraced by a wide panorama and the joy of reaching the top. We have lunch and then descend to camp 1.
