  • Where it is located the city of San Carlos de Bariloche?

The city of San Carlos de Bariloche is the capital of the southern lakes, located by the Nahuel Huapi lake coastline 780 m. above sea level and 1600 Km away from Buenos Aires, by the Andes mountain ridge. Because of its exceptional topography is one of the most developed region for active and adventure tourism . The Nahuel Huapi national park is the main attraction.

  • How do I get to Bariloche?

By airplane: inland flights from Buenos Aires (2 hs), there are also conexión flights from othermajor cities in Argentina and neighbor countries.
By road: 1630 km. from Buenos Aires, 750 Km. from Pto. Madryn, 1660 km. from El Calafate on route 40, 2200 km. from Ushuaia, 190 km. from S. M. de los Andes by Siete Lagos road and 250 km. from Osorno (Chile) by “Cardenal Samoré” border pass.
By the lakes: the “Cruce de lagos” (lake crossing road), 1 or 2 days from Pto. Montt – to Peulla ( Chile) then over “Pérez Rosales” boarder pass.

  • Which is the best season to go?

For summer activities the best season is from October to April. According to each activity some months are more advisable than others.

October, November, December the mountain are still snow capped which gives then a special attractiveness.

January & February are the most stable weather conditions and most warm months.

March and April the most colorful months with the beginning of the autumn season.

May and June, the most rainy and snowy months of the year, snow above 1000 m above sea level

July, August, September are excellent months for winter activities.

  • What is the average temperature in each season?

Autumn (21st of March – 20th June) 5º C – 15º C
Winter (21st June – 20th September) -10º C – 5º C
Spring (21st September – 20th December) 7º C – 20º C
Summer (21st December – 20th March) 12º C – 30º C

Anyway this temperatures are just about the usual ranges of temperatures, but in each season there are abrupt temperatures falls in any season, it is not unusual to have even snowfalls in summer season at the mountain tops.

  • What is included in the trip price?

All the trips and expeditions include:

- Professional guiding service for each activity
- Lodging according to each program
- Group equipment and / or technical gear for each activity
- All transport services during the trip (shuttle service)

  • Who leads the expeditions?

The expeditions and trips are lead by professional outdoor outfitters, a team of expert guides and assistants in each activity. They have wide knowledge about the regional flora, fauna, history, techniques of each activity, first aid assistance and low impact techniques.

All the guides are fluent in English and also speak Italian.

  • Which credentials do the guides have?

Each guide has credentials endorsing his/hers professional expertise and is certified by the authority in each activity or for several activities that leads. Each guide is also licensed as authorized guide by the National Park Administration.

  • Which is the difficulty grading?

We have established the following system of Grades of Difficulty in order to determine the physical and psychic demand of our activities

Low
Time: 1-3 Hs. Daily activity
Kayaking: calm waters, soft waves, protected areas, 4- 6 km.
MTB: wide roads, smooth slopes, just some sections with small ups and downs on pavement and gravel roads.
Hiking / Walking: easy walking trails, altitude drops of 200 to 500 mts.

Moderate – Medium level
 Time: 4-6 Hs. Daily activity
Kayaking: waters most calm, areas with some wind and waves, 8- 20 km daily paddling, previous experience advisable.
MTB: Village roads, mostly open trails, possible wading on creeks, medium level slopes, possible sections which you have to carry your mountain bike on your shoulder. Parts of pavement and gravel.
Hiking / Walking: Trails with sections with rocks, fallen trees may be some creek or river wading, altitude drops of 500 a 1000 mts. Distance: 10- 20 Km per day

High
Time: 6-10 Hs. Daily activity
Kayaking: Possible moderate to strong winds waves, 20- 30 Km daily paddling, it is necessary previous experience
MTB: Roads with abrupt slopes, trails with changing terrain or narrow almost closed trails, rocky, gravel terrain, wading over creeks, fallen trees, descents with close turns. Paved and gravel roads.
Hiking / Walking: There may be areas with closed trails, with loose rocks, parts with snow, marsh areas and bogs, river and creek wading, some parts with ropes or areas where you have to climb, use your hands, altitude drops of 800 to 1200 mts. per day. Distance: 15 – 25 km. per day.

Very high
Time: 8-12 Hs. Daily activity
Kayaking: Possible strong to very strong winds, waves, 25- 35 Km. daily paddling, it is necessary previous experience and knowledge about self rescuing techniques.
MTB: Roads with very abrupt slopes, closed trails, parts where you have to carry your mountain bike on your shoulder, river and/or creek wading, fallen trees, descents and close turns. Paved and gravel roads.
Hiking / Walking: There may be areas with: closed trails just bearings, loose rocks, marsh areas and bogs, river and creek wading, some parts with ropes or areas where you have to climb, use your hands, parts with snow terrain, hard snow, areas where you use a piolet and / or crampons altitude drops of 1000 to 2000 mts. per day. Distance: 25 – 45 km. per day.

  • What is the group size per trip?

Our trips and expeditions are very personalized type. There is usually groups of 4 to 6 people or just a couple. The maximum group size is 12 .

  • What kind of vehicles do you use?

Depending on the activity we use different kind of vehicles, usually is a Van for 10 to 14 people with required permits from the CNRT (comisión nacional de regulación del transporte – National transport regulation commission). We have also 4 wheel drive vehicles for difficult accessing terrains. We have also trailers and containers for transporting all the necessary gear and materials for each trip with adequate logistics.

  • What kind of equipment do you use?

  • Is it possible to rent gear?

Yes, it is possible to rent gear but you have to ask for it well in advance. It is subject to availability.

  • What food and meals do you offer?

We offer a wide variety of home made meals in all our trips. Balanced, nutritive and tasty. We include fresh first class food products.

We include a variety of desserts with fresh fruits, jams and cakes. We serve hot and cold beverages during the tour.

  • Do you have vegetarian special diet options in your food service?

Yes, of course, there is no problem at all to include vegetarian or special diet meals. You just have to let us know in advance, when you book your trip.

  • What is the lodging category you offer in your trips?

Usually the lodging depends on the chosen program and the place where it takes place. We will gladly find the lodging that suits your wishes: from simple and cozy B&B, 5 star hotels, “Estancias” ranches or mountain lodge.

  • Where do you camp?

The camping sites during the expeditions on wild areas are with no toilette facilities, where available we camp in organized sites with toilette and bathing facilities (showers, hot water and sheltered facilities. If you prefer a special kind of camping facilities it is in some programs possible to rearrange the program to suit your wishes.

  • Which is the minimum age for each activity?

The minimum age is 12 years. In the programs called “Family adventures” depends on the type of activities it may be suitable for younger kids when they come with their parents.

  • How much time ahead do I have to book a trip or expedition?

We recommend to do it with time, 3 to 6 months in advance. During this time we keep working with you to work out your desired trip with the most details possible until the day of departure.

  • How do I book a trip or an expedition?

You may book your trip through phone, email or fax. When we confirm availability you must fill the reservation form as well as the medical form. These two forms must be send signed by fax. Once you do the reservation down payment or you pay the full balance we Hill send you the detailed day by day itinerary.

  • Which means of payment do you accept?

You may pay by credit card, bank draft or money wire.

  • What is the currency exchange in Argentina ?

Now the exchange rate is for 1 USD = $ 3,10 pesos Argentinos / 1 Euro = $ 4,70 pesos Argentinos. You may check the daily rates here www.dolarhoy.com. In Argentina you may change Money at banks or Exchange offices.

  • Are there ATM, Exchange offices and banks available?

Yes in Bariloche, San Martín de los Andes as well as in Villa La Angostura there are several banks (working hours 9:00 to 13:00 Hs.), there also several ATMs and Exchange offices.
